Bathing The Mind

Our senses are filled with more information today than any other time in human evolution. The information age gives us access to almost anything we want to know at the touch of our fingertips. We are informed of events taking place all over the world. The fullness of our own lives and challenges are then topped off with sound bytes coming from all directions. We can find ourselves living, breathing, moving, feeling, in a matrix of over-stimulation.

At the same time the human experience offers us the opportunity of self-reflection. We are the only creatures on the planet able to contemplate consciousness. We live with the ability to make infinite choices moment to moment.

As we get quiet and reach for inner stillness, we witness the many movements of the mind. Like sitting in front of a pure glacial lake, the water moves with the weather and wind. Ripples turn to waves and waves turn back to ripples till a moment comes of total stillness. In that moment, the glacial landscape of the mountain behind the lake becomes reflected perfectly in the lake water. We find our attention immersed in the awe and beauty of the moment.

The winds of the mind move as frequently as weather patterns. With practice, we can quiet the movement of the mind. We can reflect on and see the increased opportunity in choices made available to us. We can free ourselves from repetitive and sometimes painful grooves of compulsive thinking based on fear, desire/aversion, grasping and limited ways of thinking formed into ingrained patterns.

Just as we bath our bodies, clean our living spaces, and weed the garden, bathing the mind in stillness and meditation releases, relaxes and refreshes our perspective. Choosing to fill the mind with inspiration, hope and prayer filled intentions leads us once again to choices guiding us toward the “Higher Path”.

May we fill ourselves with the nourishment that deepens our connection to the soul. May we come to realize the infinite moments offering profound connection to the divine.

As we move into fall and face new activities and changes in schedules, remember to welcome stillness. Fill the mind with inspiration.

Create your sacred time for meditation. Bathe the mind.

Radiant Is The World Soul

Full of splendor and beauty,

Full of life,

Of souls hidden,

Of treasures of the holy spirit,

Of fountains of strength,

Of greatness and beauty.

 Proudly I ascend

Toward the heights of the world soul

That gives life to the universe.

How majestic the vision

Come, enjoy,

Come, find peace,

Embrace delight,

Taste and see that God is good.

Why spend your substance on what does not nourish?

And your labor on what cannot satisfy?

Listen to me, and you will enjoy what is good,

And find delight in what is truly precious.

January 28 to February 4, 2012

Winter is the season of inwardness, reflection, and renewal.  Ayurveda suggests this season is a time for our most auspicious spiritual unfolding. Join us in the study of Yoga and Ayurveda specifically directed at deepening your experience (and ease) in meditation, your connection to the natural world as inspiration for life’s questions and creativities, and your innate experience of awe.  We’ll practice the tools of yoga that cultivate the state of dhyana (meditation), naturally, including seated forward bends and twists, inversions, bandhas, pranayama, chanting, and mindfulness.  We’ll draw on a wide array of yoga asana to prepare ourselves for these practices; and we’ll explore the teachings in the Bhagavad Gita for insight into how life unfolds through despondency to clarity, devotion, and surrender.
